Self-Identification

The University encourages all applicants and employees to voluntarily self-identify their race and ethnicity, protected veteran status, and disability status.  This information is critical to assessing current policies and practices, in addition to understanding how to better provide all employees with the tools and resources they need to succeed. 

All information provided will be kept confidential and will not be used in a manner inconsistent with University policy or applicable law.  Refusal to provide information will not result in any adverse action.

How to Self Identify

Employees may identify or update their race and ethnicity, veteran status, or disability status on the self-service employee dashboard:

• 1. Launch the Employee Dashboard

  2. Click the Personal Information link under Additional Resources on the right hand side

  3. Scroll to Additional Details at the bottom

  4. Choose 🖉 Edit under the field you wish to change

  5. Fill out the online form and click Submit

Protected Veteran Status

"Protected veterans" include those that are classified as a/an:

• Disabled Veteran: You are a veteran of the U.S. Military who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and were discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

• Recently Separated Veteran: You were discharged or released from active duty within the last three years.

• Active Duty Wartime or Campaign Badge Veteran:  You served on active duty during one or more of the periods of war outlined in 38 U.S.C. § 101 or you served on active duty in any campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

• Armed Forces Service Medal Veteran:  You served on active duty in a U.S. military operation for which an Armed Forces Service Medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985 (61 FR1209) and you were awarded the Armed Forces Service Medal or the Armed Forces Service Medal.  Ensure your award is listed on your DD Form 214.
