Accommodation Privacy, Community, and Discrimination Resources

Accommodation Privacy

When submitting an accommodation request, the details of your medical condition are only accessible to the Office of Institutional Equity (OIE). Your medical condition is confidential and will not be discussed with your supervisor/manager(s), division leaders, or Notre Dame Human Resources (NDHR) People Strategy Partners or Employee Experience Specialists.

Employees are not obligated to discuss their medical condition(s) with supervisors, and supervisors should not ask employees about their medical condition(s). Supervisors should direct all accommodation-related questions, concerns, and discussions related to the ADA process to OIE to ensure proper medical confidentiality.

Respectful Community

The Notre Dame community is committed to respecting the dignity of every person. To live out this commitment, our individual actions must reflect respect for the privacy and equity afforded through the accommodation process.

Supervisors cannot disclose information about a colleague's accommodation status or personal medical details. All members of the Notre Dame community are expected to refrain from inquiring about a colleague's private medical information or accommodations.

It is essential to recognize that colleagues may have approved disability- or pregnancy-related accommodations that are not visible or known to you, as these are private medical matters handled with appropriate confidentiality. If you observe a colleague operating under different working conditions or expectations, we ask you to assume good intent. Please trust that the University has implemented appropriate and equitable arrangements through the interactive process.

Discrimination and Harassing Conduct

The University expressly prohibits discrimination and harassing conduct that is based on or targeted towards individuals with disabilities, pregnant individuals, or those with pregnancy-related conditions.

Report an incident of disability or pregnancy-related discrimination or harassment

If you wish to remain anonymous, you may file a report with the ND Integrity Line by calling +1 (800) 688-9918 orĀ submitting a report through EthicsPoint. Please note that OIE's ability to meaningfully investigate an anonymously reported incident or impose disciplinary sanctions may be limited.
